Plumbing Standard Rates
The Foundation of Plumbing Estimating
A standard rate is a unit of measurement consisting of a performance timeframe (labour), material price and excavation cost, which is combined with a project's price.
Example of a Standard RateA prevalent rate used within a plumbing project is installing 100mm DWV pipe at an average depth of 750mm below ground.
Example of a Standard RateA prevalent rate used within a plumbing project is installing 100mm DWV pipe at an average depth of 750mm below ground.
Therefore if you measure 85m of 100mm DWV Sewer drainage at an average 750mm trench depth, the cost to install that section will be: $4,277.80 ex GST (85m x $50.33)
Note: This example does not include bends, junctions, fittings or mark-up
Benefits of Using Standard RatesTendering / Project CostingStandard rates are among the most fundamental elements within the tendering process as they create a consistent and reliable benchmark when pricing a project. When applied correctly, standard rates allow an estimator to efficiently create an accurate project cost and, as a result, give them confidence and flexibility with a submitted tender price.
Justifiable Schedule of RatesA standard Rate can be easily altered to create a “justifiable” rate for use in a schedule of rates and costing a variation. As the standard rate is made up of accurate material and labour components, each rate's price can be made transparent for full disclosure if required.
Scheduling and programming of worksEach standard rate consists of a labour component that, when implemented to produce a tender price, has unbelievable flexibility to create an accurate work schedule. Another major advantage of knowing the projected labour hours is that time frames within a project's construction program can be analysed and planned even before starting a build.
Progress claimsWhen a tender has been set-up and priced correctly using accurate standard rates, then as the project progresses and is constructed, an accurate and “justifiable” progress claim can be efficiently generated.
Project trackingImagine if it were possible to know in real-time if a project is on schedule and within budget, and not wait until the end of the project to find that you are over budget.
